Our History

Horizon CPAs and Advisors PLC was formed by Kathy Burch as a boutique Tulsa CPA firm specializing in serving small businesses and individuals. Over the years, we have brought remarkable services and products to our clients through many different avenues including retirement planning, estate planning, tax credit offerings, charitable endeavors, and other tax savings tools.

Kathy Burch, the original founder, still owns and manages the firm today and our goal remains the same: to provide the highest quality CPA services to our clients with a focus on customer service, creativity, accuracy, tax savings, and thoroughness. We strive to earn the trust of our clients by our standard of integrity through our faith and communication with transparency and honesty. We truly value and care for our clients and they are an extended family to us.

Our Leadership

Kathy Burch, JD CPA MS
Principal

“I help our clients take care of their financial and legal matters when they don’t have the time, expertise, or desire to do it on their own,” explains Kathy Burch in describing her work as a tax attorney. “My job is to find solutions to problems and explain the action plan in everyday language,” she said.  “It is a huge compliment that so many of our clients have been referred to us by current clients and other professionals. I am the trusted advisor to our clients, and I consider that an honor and a responsibility.”

Kathy’s love for learning and helping others began at a young age – driven by her Christian faith. She is active in the Kingdom at Work leadership ministry, and is a past board member of the Woody Guthrie Center. With the firm, she continues to support many local and world- wide charities.

Kathy is an attorney and certified public accountant. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting, with honors, from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.  She completed her master of taxation degree, with highest honors, from the University of Tulsa and also earned her law degree from the University of Tulsa in 2008.  She is admitted to practice law in Oklahoma as a licensed CPA. She has authored numerous articles on taxation and is a member of the American Bar Association, Oklahoma Bar Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Oklahoma Society of CPAs.

When Kathy is not working she enjoys spending time with her husband, Ross Powell, and their children at Grand Lake. She also enjoys golfing, skiing, gardening and spending time outdoors.

Our Team

At Horizon CPA, we are a small, but successful team. We love getting to know each other while we get to learn about our clients as well. We also know the importance of professional development and continuing education within our field. We have taken team trips that include continuing learning and sharing lots of laughs.

Dear Friend,

I have a feeling I know why you’re reading this right now.

You need more time in your day. Running a business is extremely demanding and there just isn’t enough time in the day to keep all the plates from spinning out of control. What you need most right now is more proactive help with your business finances and tax strategy. As soon as possible. In fact, yesterday would have been ideal. Am I close?

We get it. We’ve worked with plenty of businesses who have to cobble together 9 different software programs to keep everything straight, or who just wash their hands of it all and put everything on the credit card … and then try to clean up every year after the fact. And they know that this is no way to properly monitor profit margins, cash controls, account management, tax strategy and all of the myriad components of an effective financial system for a business.

Perhaps this is your story too. Or perhaps you’ve reached a stage of development in your business that you want to pass the baton of accounting to another expert team so your expert team can focus on what they do best: making sales and taking care of customers.

Or are you just starting your business and want to begin on the right foot?

Whatever the reason, we want you to know that our team has been diligently and effectively taking care of the accounting needs of countless organizations in a wide variety of industries—discreetly and expertly handling the ongoing financial management of tax burdens, payroll, bookkeeping, and other comprehensive accounting services while providing expertise in business planning, coaching, and strategic consulting that many businesses need.

Because here’s a certain truth as it relates to taxes and your business: The State and Federal Government would love to have more of your business’s hard-earned money in their accounts. And yes, even though it’s painful, none of us begrudge paying our legal and fair share of taxes. But the problem is that regular business owners, like you, are missing out on legal and safe deductions to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars in unclaimed refunds every year.

It doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to hand more dollars over to the government than they require just because you don’t know their rules as well as they do. You don’t have to live in a constant state of anxiety over the state of your books, feeling guilty about the time you should be devoting to keeping your business profitable.

In fact, to help you find answers to your questions, I’ve compiled some resources in the last couple of years for business people like you in response to the specific tax and accounting questions I’ve received from my clients.

Click the button above to take your first step. And of course, feel free to poke around our site and discover why I’ve been called “The Most Trusted CPA in the Tulsa Area.”

Talk again soon,

Kathy Burch, CPA
